Skin care tips for perioral dermatitis:
- Take medication according to your doctor.
- In order to prevent further irritation, avoid using skin cleansing products during the acute stage.
- Avoid using moisturisers and face creams. The use of topical steroids should certainly be stopped as well.
- Inflammatory conditions such as perioral dermatitis are exacerbated by hot foods and alcohol. Avoiding these may accelerate your recovery.
- A mild soap or soap substitute, should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided.
- Use oil free water based cosmetics.
- Wash the face with warm water alone while the rash is present. When it has cleared up, wash with a non-soap bar or liquid cleanser and water.
- Grape seed extract is said and believed to have a good effect on people suffering from this condition. Applying the extract to your chin, nose, and lip area would help with the breakouts. Drinking grape seed extract juice would also be helpful.
- Normally, the healing process may take 6 - 8 weeks, and it may be very difficult to go without skin care products for such a long time, especially when the skin feels dry and itches or burns. If avoidance of all skin care products seems not possible for the patient, a moisturiser free from preservatives and fragrances may be used exceptionally, at times when the skin really feels tight, burns or itches. But, before using these products, first consult to your doctor for your good.
