Skin Care for People with Lupus

Lupus is responsible for causing various skin related problems such as skin rashes and sores. Some common skin problems due to lupus may include butterfly rash, discoid lesions, subacute cutaneous lesions, mucous membrane lesions etc. Here are some basic skin care tips for people with lupus.

Skin Care for Lupus

  • First of all, try to reduce your sun exposure as much as possible. Also, stay away from artificial light sources such as fluorescent and halogen bulbs.
  • Limit your outdoor activities between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Do not forget to wear a good quality sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) = 15 or higher and be sure that your sunscreen protects against both UVB and UVA rays. Also, it is recommended that you should wear protective clothing.
  • Consult with your doctor if you notice any rash or sore on the skin.
  • Stay away from chemical based beauty products like hair dyes, skin creams etc. It's okay to wear makeup, but try hypoallergenic brands.
It is always better to consult with your doctor before taking any over the counter medicine or any other home made remedy.
