Skin care for perioral dermatitis

Skin care for perioral dermatitis

Perioral dermatitis is a chronic skin disorder which is known well for causing erythema (reddening), papules, pustules and sometimes oedema (swelling). Mostly young women are more prone to this disorder. There are many cause of perioral dermatitis but in most cases it is caused by a prolonged use of topical steroid creams on the face and overuse of face creams and moisturisers.

Some other common causes of perioral dermatitis:

Use of contraceptive pill, cosmetic usage can worsen perioral dermatitis.

Gastrointestinal disturbances,

Physical factors such as UV light, heat, and wind.

Toothpaste containing lauryl sulfate.

The emotional stress is also a cause of perioral dermatitis.

Skin care tips for perioral dermatitis:

  • Take medication according to your doctor.
  • In order to prevent further irritation, avoid using skin cleansing products during the acute stage.
  • Avoid using moisturisers and face creams. The use of topical steroids should certainly be stopped as well.
  • Inflammatory conditions such as perioral dermatitis are exacerbated by hot foods and alcohol. Avoiding these may accelerate your recovery.
  • A mild soap or soap substitute, should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided.
  • Use oil free water based cosmetics.
  • Wash the face with warm water alone while the rash is present. When it has cleared up, wash with a non-soap bar or liquid cleanser and water.
  • Grape seed extract is said and believed to have a good effect on people suffering from this condition. Applying the extract to your chin, nose, and lip area would help with the breakouts. Drinking grape seed extract juice would also be helpful.
  • Normally, the healing process may take 6 - 8 weeks, and it may be very difficult to go without skin care products for such a long time, especially when the skin feels dry and itches or burns. If avoidance of all skin care products seems not possible for the patient, a moisturiser free from preservatives and fragrances may be used exceptionally, at times when the skin really feels tight, burns or itches. But, before using these products, first consult to your doctor for your good.

Skin care for open pores

Skin care for open pores

If you really want a healthy looking skin then you need to follow a skin care regime strictly. Here are some skin care tips for open pores:

  • One of the best treatments for open pores is to avoid astringents or harsh toners on the affected skin.
  • Stay away from alcohol based products, which cause the capillaries to dilate and tighten the pores which make them look smaller temporarily. Harsh astringents are well known for increasing the size of your pores by encouraging the oil glands to produce more oil.
  • Vitamins are vital in improving your overall health as well as the health of your skin. Some helpful vitamins and minerals are zinc, vitamin A, C, E and B-complex vitamins such as vitamin B6 can be used to support acne treatment.
  • Makeup can be used to create an illusion of pore less skin. In order to do so, apply foundation, powder, concealer and blusher in a downward motion. Try to go for an oil free foundation.
  • Any vegetable or fruit that has an astringent quality will help smoothen uneven skin texture and reduce open pores.
  • Add a few drops of lime juice in to a tomato juice. Apply on open pores for 20 minutes. Wash with cold water.
  • The juice or pulp of Pineapple, Peaches and Papaya is very beneficial in the treatment of open pores.
  • Always wash your face with cold water after steaming. In humid weather wash the face 2-3 times with cold water.
  • Microdermabrasion can also be used to lessen the appearance of the open pores.
Consult your dermatologist for an expert advice. You may need tretinoin also known as Retin-A which will helps unclog pores by loosening your blackheads and helps speed up cell renewal process.
